karaoke. oh joy.
the one thing jess hated most in this world was just that. i mean, how on earth could these people actually want to risk losing their dignity forever by getting up on stage and singing horrible songs, humiliating themselves in the process? it was puzzling to him, and somewhat similar to the meaning of life; he will never what the meaning of it actually is.
jess sat alone at the bar counter, throwing back butterbeers. nothing had ever tasted this good right now and that was a shock as jess hated butterbeer with a passion. but he had escaped from the wraths of the school to be alone and seek solace. what had become of his life? he was in his last year of hogwarts and he had achieved nothing. he was beginning to consider himself a failure. that's what he was.
his head throbbed as each song had the same optimistic jingle to it, and each singer caused his ears to want to shrivel up and die. maybe he wouldn't mind karaoke nights if people with good voices actually got up and sang. and the strange thing was, most of them had got the words completely wrong, despite there being a huge screen directly in front of their faces with the words on it.
he sighed deeply as he ordered another butterbeer. he downed it and closed his eyes, rubbing his face with his hands in attempt to wake himself up from this horribl nightmare. he then looked a the clock. nine o'clock. another three hours of karaoke to go. jess slammed his head down on the counter at the thought of it. three hours of complete and utter torture. oh joy indeed.

"Yeah, they aren't good are they?" Percy said from behind the counter. Karaoke nights weren't her favourite either, but most people that went onto the stage were pretty drunk, and what makes people drunk? Alcohol. Where do you buy alcohol? From the pretty lady behind the counter of The Three Broomsticks. And that pretty lady got money for that alcohol. It was painful, but that was soon healed by a quick shop.
She recognised the boy in front of her as a slytherin, but she wasn't sure of his name, although she knew he was a Sanderson, they all had the same features.

it had been a while since jess had heard from his mother. he and amy weren't really as close as they used to be anymore. she went off after marrying that léblanc guy but for some reason she still kept ravena as her surname. his father wasn't exactly one to be around for a while. he was the dark lord afterall and it would seem a little conspicuous if he was walking round the streets.
jess sighed as each person went onto the stage and began singing different songs. all of which sounded pretty much the same to jess. he hated this kind of music. he would usually be found listening to heavy metal and whatnot. not some happy christmas song by cliff richard or shakin' stevens; whoever they were.
jess lifted his head from the counter as the lady serving him had spoken. he laughed as she said that they were good. ''oh yeah, i'd buy their albums,'' he said sarcastically. the endless butterbeers were doing nothing for him, so he ordered something a little stronger. ''gimme a firewhiskey,'' he asked, sighing deeply before putting his head back down on the counter. he couldn't go back to the school, because there were teachers hunting him down for his homework he was supposed to hand in weeks ago, plus he was skipping several classes. all was well; except for the droning voices of those that got up on stage.

"And i'd hex the guy that gave them a recording contract." She said to Jess with a chuckle, before acknowledging his request. "Firewhiskey coming right up." She said, flicking her wand in the direction of the bottle, and one hovered through the air, before settling itself on the counter infront of Jess. She then summoned a glass, and filled it with pumpkin juice, before sipping it, and setting it down on the counter. "So, what brings you here on this night of all nights." Pricilla asked him.

jess's head was throbbing in pain. every stupid person in the room got up on stage, slowly making a fool of themselves and losing all the dignity they had left. he just didn't understand it. maybe muggles would have done it, because they were stupid anyway, but wizards? surely they should have known better? obviously not.
jess smiled slightly at the barmaid as she set the firewhiskey down in front of him. ''cheers,'' he said, lifting it and knocking it back in one go. it burned the back of his throat and felt almost like it was on fire, but as the stinging ceased, jess let out a sigh. ''keep em coming,'' he added. these would definately take away his headache.
jess looked at the barmaid as she asked what he was here. he thought about artemis, and how she had disappeared, calling off the engagement. he knew from then there was nothing else that mattered to him. everybody he cared about was gone. there was nothing there for him anymore. ''just needed to get away,'' he said quietly.

"I see what you mean." She said in reply to 'just needed to get away'. "Hogwarts is starting to confuse even the best of us." She added, thinking about the conversation between her and Rose in the Headmistress' office. The breakdown was still something Pricilla hadn't expected to see, but she thought she understood the reasons behind it, though she thought wrong. Summoning another firewhiskey, she passed it to Jess, taking another mouthful of pumpkin juice.
